National Portfolio Day

National Portfolio Day, also known as the "National Portfolio Day",

Presented by the National Art Portfolio Association (NPDA). The association was established in 1978 as a non-profit organization consisting of representatives of various fine arts, art and film schools.

"National Portfolio Day" first emerged in North America, and then began to enter Canada, France and other countries. All the famous art schools such as Rhode Island School of Design, Parsons, Pratt, Art Institute of Chicago, UAL and other major art schools, will participate in this event.

At the event, representatives or admissions officers from many well-known art schools will communicate face-to-face with students, parents and practitioners, review portfolios and provide the latest school information and official guidance.

Why should I participate in National Portfolio Day?

For art students, participating in National Portfolio Day is the first step in getting to know art schools and preparing for your application. During the discussion of the work, the representatives of the college will review your work and recommend a major that is more suitable for you. If you already have a school to which you're applying, getting advice from a mentor at your target institution on a "portfolio day" is also a great way to help you with your application. Although schools generally do not admit students directly on site. However, it cannot be ruled out that some school representatives will record the students' information after seeing potential students, and encourage students to apply to their schools. If the tutor likes you very much, it will even give an Early Offer (pre-admission) in advance, as long as your other criteria (language scores, etc.) meet the school’s requirements, you can be admitted.

Who needs to participate in National Portfolio Day?

1. High school students who are about to apply to the University of the Arts:

You are the last ones to miss National Portfolio Day. Whether your work is ready or not, you should listen to the advice given by the interviewer of your favorite university to make sure that your preparation direction is correct.

2. Students who are interested in art university but have no direction:

On this year’s National Portfolio Day, in addition to portfolio review, many universities also have Q&A and lecture sessions. They can give you the most information and help you determine your future direction.

3. College students who are already in college but considering transferring to the University of the Arts:

Most schools have different portfolio requirements for the upper year than the average high school student, which makes many students unclear. So the best way is to ask the interviewer clearly and clarify the direction of preparation.

What do I need to prepare for National Portfolio Day?

1. Naturally, your work must be fully prepared. Whether it is ready or not, you should show it to the interviewer and let them give you advice. Most of the interviewers are very nice and patient.

2. The computer version of all works should also be prepared. This year is the first time to try to do it online on National Portfolio Day, so it may be necessary for students to upload their works to the interviewer. It is always right to prepare the electronic version.

3. Ample indoor lighting. If you are showing your work to the interviewer through a camera, then enough bright lighting will help you show your work.

4. Unobstructed network connection. If you are queuing online, the network card may make the queue you have worked so hard to queue up all at once.

5. Remember to record or video, so that you can listen to it later.
